Icon: Prophet Jonah

This large icon was once part of the row of prophets from an iconostatis of a Russian church. Jonah is depicted looking to the left with a scroll in his hand on which is written, ‘and Jonah said the word of God and some….’ Jonah is legendary from the story of his three days and nights in the belly of a whale.

Jonah is life-sized in this impressive icon. The dramatic folds in his garments add to the strength and integrity of this work.
