The three saints standing with the Mandylion of Christ in the center above their heads. Saints Guri, Samon and Aviv were early Christian martyrs who died for their faith during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian in the fourth century. Their shrines were said to be the cause of many miracles. An early pious legend concerning a man and his wife Euphemia gave rise to the tradition that the saints protect marriage and family wedlock.
