The presentation of the Mother of God in the Temple is based on the Protevangelion of James and celebrated on November 21st. Zacharias, welcomes the young Mary, whose parents Anna and Joachim have brought her into the temple, accompanied by a procession of maidens carrying candles. The girls stand in the background at the left side. At the top right, the Virgin Mary, in a small chapel, is conversing with an angel who brings her spiritual nourishment.
